Jewellery Care We do our best to ensure that every piece of jewellery we sell is of the highest quality, and therefore with proper care the pieces you buy from us today should last you for many years to come. As almost all of our jewellery is made from 925 hallmarked, sterling silver, it is reasonably strong and durable, however it can still tarnish and scratch if not treated with care so always be careful not to knock it against other jewellery or sharp surfaces and materials. To clean the silver itself use a dedicated silver cloth, or cleaner, to maintain it's shine, and help protect from scratches, and keep it looking it's best. Do not overclean as this may cause the metal to wear prematurely. All of our gemstones are natural where possible, and therefore vary greatly in their strength and resilience depending on their structures. Some are very fragile, denting or cracking easily if knocked, others are more durable and can withstand minor scrapes and bumps. Some crystals we sell are friable and will dissolve if put into water, therefore we suggest you look up the physical properties of your gemstone, and then take care to avoid contact with water if necessary. Other layered crystals can be more susceptible to fracturing and splitting, so again treat these with greater care. Many of our stones will have natural occlusions (dents and markings), due to their nature, but these again can be weak spots if knocked or caught. In order to protect your jewellery, pieces should ideally be stored in individual bags or containers where possible, so as not to scratch each other. Ideally keep them stored in their organza bag or gift box, or otherwise wrap them in a scarf or ream of soft material. Some stones' colour will fade if left in direct sunlight, so again be sure to check your stones' properties. It's also wise not to expose your stones to excess water, many durable stones can be cleansed in water fairly regularly without damage, but I would avoid swimming or showering with jewellery if possible. If unavoidable always be sure to properly dry the jewellery afterwards, and again check the properties of your stone before exposing to salt water as this can really damage the softer stones. Unlike gemstones, freshwater pearls will polish naturally when worn against the skin so no further polishing should be required other than on the fastenings. Pearls can dent easily so again treat with care and be sure not to knock or rub against any other hard surfaces.
